Mitchell Sandvig
What I love about using wood and trees is they are almost like us, there’s only one of them in the world.
A little about the designer
Like his intricate and bespoke works of art, Mitchell Sandvig is a complex combination of the old and the new coming together in a wholly unexpected, yet cohesive individual. Sandvig, at heart, is an old-world master craftsman who has dedicated his life to perfecting his skill and his art. While his approach to the work is steeped in centuries-old traditional joinery, his design aesthetic and techniques are wholly modern and groundbreaking.
Sandvig and his signature dining tables are heavily influenced by the wood and trees from which they are born. Using large slabs of reclaimed wood, Sandvig gives the tree a second life as a one-of-a-kind creation designed to be treasured for generations. These highly functional works of art and their value are based in the truth of where the art originated, how it was created, and why it was brought to life.
Sandvig’s early interests led him to the study of architecture, but he soon realized his passion was the intimate process of designing and making furniture. Sandvig’s journey led him to Chicago where he attended interior design school before ultimately finding the perfect program for his specific goals in furniture-making at the Bauhaus Apprenticeship Institute. Sandvig currently works in a studio in rural Oklahoma, where the surrounding hills, woodland, and wildlife inspire and influence his art.
