Trestle Table

Each and every table created by Sandvig Studio is a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted, and meticulously sculpted piece of artwork. The Crossroads Trestle Table was first designed in 2000. Today, it is the culmination of two decades of artistic design refinement and the evolution of old-world, furniture-making techniques.

The massive piece of glass that creates the “top” of the dining table is supported by cross beams of various solid hardwoods that are crafted using several types of old-world joinery. From a cross overlapping joint to an oversized dovetail joint; the support beams follow the tenets Sandvig learned and perfected at the Bauhaus Apprenticeship Institute.

The Crossroads Trestle Table is the perfect marriage of form and function. It adds a bespoke work of art to any home while providing an unshakable setting for family and friends to gather and celebrate for generations to come.

The table is born from an existing piece of raw, reclaimed wood. Each massive, 300-pound slab of wood carries the unique, singular attributes of the original tree into its next life. Every table is unique in size and proportions. However, they all require painstaking attention to detail with up to 20 variable, angled miter joints for a single table. The table requires 100 individual cross-green splines to meticulously reinforce the tongue-and-groove joints across the miter. The table’s perfect arc is created by precisely gluing the slab back together using old-world techniques that eschew the use of any type of nail, screw, or fastener. The beauty of the wood is unmarred by metal at the end of the process.

Once the handcrafted fabrication is complete, the slab is “whole” again in its new arched form. The arch is now fastidiously sculpted using a bevy of hand tools, which results in a perfectly smooth finish.
